چکیده

Tannin-rich legume forages have nutraceutical value for ruminants through slowing down the infections with parasitic nematodes of the gastro intestinal tract. This review aims to describe the effects of tannin-containing legumes on the various nematode stages We will also discuss the sources of variability in results and present the current hypotheses in regard to the possible modes of action of the plant secondary metabolite on the worms.

Identification and determination of polyphenols and tannin in the galls and in the extract of Quercus infectoria

The aim of this study was to develop a preparation of a hydroalcoholic extract of Quercus infectoria in order to study the physicochemical parameters, and to identify and quantitatively determine the amount of Polyphenols and Tannin in the galls and in the extract. Preparation of an extract rich in Tannin from the galls of Quercus infectoria, as an astringent, can make incorporation into recta...

Effect of the tropical tannin-rich shrub legumes Calliandra calothyrsus and Flemingia macrophylla on methane emission and nitrogen and energy balance in growing lambs.

The objective of this study was to test whether the use of tannin-rich shrub legume forage is advantageous for methane mitigation and metabolic protein supply at unchanged energy supply when supplemented in combination with tannin-free legumes to sheep. In a 6 × 6 Latin-square design, foliage of two tannin-rich shrub legume species (Calliandra calothyrsus and Flemingia macrophylla) were used to...

Rumen ammonia concentrations, and non-ammonia nitrogen passage to and apparent absorption from the small intestine of sheep ingesting subtropical, temperate, and tannin-containing forages

Non-ammonia nitrogen (NAN) passage to the small intestine and disappearance of NAN in that organ have been studied in multi-cannulated sheep on pasture or fed indoors. Forages under investigation included a number of subtropical grasses, foggages and hay, temperate grasses, lucerne (Medicago sativa), triticale (Triticale X Secale), oven-dried ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum), and the tannin-contai...

Desirable characteristics of forage legumes for improving protein utilization in ruminants.

Forages help meet the protein requirements of ruminants by providing degraded CP for microbial protein synthesis plus protein that escapes ruminal degradation. Evidence from numerous feeding studies with lactating dairy cows indicates that excessive ruminal protein degradation may be the most limiting nutritional factor in higher-quality temperature legume forages. Hence, there is interest in i...
